Abstract
Tinea capitis is a dermatophyte intfection of the scalp, eyebrows, and eyelashes caused by a variety of the genera Microsporum and Trichophyton. Dermatophytes causing tinea capitis in Korea include Microsporum canis, Trichophyton ferrugineum,
Microsporum gypseum, Trichophyton mentagrophytes, Trichophyton violaceum. However, Trichophyton rubrum seldom causes tinea capitis in Korea.
We recently experienced a rare case of tinea capitis caused by Trichophyton rubrum. A 85-year-old woman complained of a painful and pruritic, scaly, erythematous patch with a few scattered folliculopustules accompanied by moderate inflammation on
the
frontal scalp. She ws successfully treated with oral itraconazole.
